Sale Picks (See Jane Shop)

It's that time of year again.  If you're familiar with the retail cycle, you might notice that once all the spring apparel goes on sale, you can actually wear it if you live in a chilly climate.  It's pretty much the only advantage that comes along with a chilly climate in May.  (Spring in Chicago/midwest has been downright arctic.)

The best thing about the Nordstrom Half Yearly sale is that it's an opportunity to buy the fancy brands that you know and love at a discounted price.  This is the time when I buy from the Via C (sale here) and Individualist department (sale here).

This Sea dress is linen and I think I will wear it all summer (bought it!).
How cute would this The Great. white top be with white jeans?
This Kooples red, floral dress is perfect for showers and weddings this summer.
How cute would these Apiece Apart shorts be with a black tank?
This Sea top would be amazing with jean shorts and sandals.
Veda rarely goes on sale and this jacket is perfect for now AND for fall - grab it!

Official Preppy Handbook (See Jane Wear)

Two Penny Blue blazer (similar), old H&M striped tee (similar), 3x1 jeans, DSW shoes (similar), Serpui Marie clutch (look for less)
Warm weather brings out the prepster in me.  Reds, whites, blues, and stripes?  Give it all to me.  It's really my fail-safe combination, though, and navy is my 'black' in the summertime.  What's your go-to summer color combo?

Also, have you noticed a trend in my spring wear?  Blazers.  Here's a few to start with:

navy scalloped blazer
coral collarless blazer
gingham blazer
dotten linen blazer

Hope you all had a great week.  Here in Chicago, we were able to enjoy some beautiful summer weather, although I had a dream last night that it snowed and I wouldn't put it past this place.  I'm crossing my fingers that this weather sticks!

Here's a recap of my outfits over the past few weeks that I posted on Instagram but didn't make it on the blog (I can't deal with Instagram right now....I feel like I'm missing everyone's posts lately)`.  A few highlights: I found my flares in the depths of my closet (win! shop more flares here) and these jeans are now on sale for $30!

Time of My Life (See Jane Wear)

isa tapia mules
Leith dress (love this OTS version!), Isa Tapia heels (love this non-scalloped version and shop Isa Tapia here), denim jacket (shop more jean jackets here), Sepui Marie clutch (shop more straw clutches here)

No, it's not Jennifer Grey, just me having the time of my life.  This ballerina-inspired dress is sweet and demure, yet perfect for a day in the city.  That's why I love throwing jackets on top of a such girly dresses--it toughens them up a bit.

Other ballerina dresses I'm loving:

lace combo
romantic maxi

Also update: I found these shoes on sale (tear, as I bought them full price)

The Updated Driving Moccasin (See Jane Wear + Give Away)

M Gemi "Felize" mules, 3x1 jeans (on sale), Current/Elliott top, Sonix sunglasses, ChloĆ© bag
I love discovering new things--especially brands.  I remember when I discovered M Gemi shoes--I think I randomly saw a shoe I loved on Instagram and had to have it.  Ever since the brand launched two years ago, I've been both intrigued and delighted by the fact that the shoes are made in Italy, the styles are beautiful (on trend) and the prices are fair.  I've acquired four pairs over the last two years and they've never disappointed me...and I always get compliments on them (in fact, they just re-issued one of my faves here).  M Gemi's most popular style is the driving moccasin and I'm teaming up with them to celebrate the release of their newest member of the driving moc family: the Felize, which is a driving moccasin mule.

This style is comfortable, adorable and so easy for spring and summer.  I received these on Thursday and I've already worn them three times.  I know you'll love them as much as I do and I will be giving away a pair win my Instagram this week!  Just head over to my Instagram and to enter, please do the following:
  • Follow M Gemi
  • Follow me
  • Tag a friend in the comments of my post
  • Only US residents eligible for giveaway and it ends 5/21, Sunday at 11:59PM CDT.
*Thanks to M Gemi for partnering with this post!

How to Stick to a Work Out (See Jane Sweat)

If you follow me on Instagram, you might've seen my plea for workout help.  I decided last week that I couldn't continue down my road of skinny-fat and for general health purposes, it's time to get back in the workout saddle.  For context (I'm just going to put it all out there), I am not very athletic BUT at the same time, I'm not totally inept.  I dabbled in sports for years but you know what, I was never good enough to stick with it.  I WAS an avid horseback rider, though (started riding as a 5 year old).  My body type is naturally thin--I like to say willowy but my family has always called me lanky.  However, I have no natural muscle tone.  I hear my friends complain about how certain exercises make them 'bulk up' and I can relate in no way.  I would like some muscle, some tone, and some more energy overall, please!  Anyway, I started a tone-up/barre hybrid class last week before the kids wake up and so far so good; but I'm three classes down and I actually want to stick with it so I asked the masses to give me their best tips and I want to share them with you!

  • Schedule your class ahead of time--it forces you to stick with it due to cancellation fees.
  • Take before photos and take another photo once a week to look at your progress.
  • Bring a friend (or two) - you force each other to be accountable.
and the #1 tip I received....
  • Work out in the morning.  It's so much easier to get it over with and provides an extra burst of energy for the day!
Any other tips you can share?  I'd love to hear them!  Here's to building muscle.

Fresh White Jacket (See Jane Wear)

white blazer outfit
WHBM blazer (shop more white blazers here), Gucci beltMother jeans (shop more Mother herelook for less here), J Crew cami,
DSW heels (similar), Mansur Gavriel bag (shop camel totes here), Celine sunglasses
If I could give any style advice to you for spring, it would be: buy a white jacket.  It doesn't have to be a blazer and it doesn't have to be expensive, but white jackets are my absolute favorite and once the weather turns, I grab my white jackets over and over and over again.  IRO is my favorite brand (they do white so well) but J Crew does a great white blazer, too.  I promise, once you slip on a white jacket, you'll feel fresh with a literal spring in your step.

Feel the white jacket.  Feel fresh.  Shop a few more here:

Girly in Gingham (See Jane Wear)

midi skirt vince
Zara top (similar here and here), Vince skirt (look for less here), Steve Madden heels (this lower heel version is also a favorite of mine),
Chanel bag (love this bag, too!), Sonix sunglasses

When I go girly, I go all in.  I've revisited my love for skirts this spring (they were tough to wear with a growing stomach last year). I've also paired this gingham top with cropped flares and oxfords for an edgier look, but wanted to give the ol' girly college try and make the look feminine and fresh.

Try the gingham trend (it's a trend every spring, let's be honest with ourselves here) for yourselves:

off the shoulder gingham
statement sleeve gingham
reaaaaally cute shorts (and under $50!)
bustier peplum top (SO adorable with white jeans)
a dress you can wear now and again in the fall

gingham shirt midi skirt

Spring Uniform (See Jane Wear)

old ASOS duster (similar here and under $50 here), Frame jeans (shop more Frame here), J Crew cami (shop more silk camis here), BCBG heels (similar in nude and shop block sandals here), Sonix sunglasses, ChloĆ© bag (shop white bags here)
Spring weather can be a bit chaotic so I like to bust out the basics when I'm lost on what to wear: straight-leg denim, a silk cami and a jacket.  This duster has served me well for over two years.  It's light, flowy and washable--basically all you can ask for in a poly-blend garment.

Check out some of my favorite dusters/trenches:
