KISS - Winter Edition (See Jane Wear)

IRO coat (similar here and look for less here), Veronica Beard turtleneck (on sale and look for less here), jeans (on sale version here),
YSL boots (old but similar and look for less here), Chanel boy bag

Hopefully you're all getting ready to take some time off, no matter what you celebrate.  This time of year can be crazy so one way to simplify is to start with your outfit: head to toe black and a contrasting coat--chic but completely effortless.

This is my 'KISS' outfit, winter style.  (KISS stands for "Keep it Simple, Stupid"--that's why the rock band is called that, which I never realized until recently).  Check out my warm-weather version HERE.

Office Holiday Party Outfit (See Jane Wear)

Everlane trousers (under $100), Vince top (on sale!), Veronica Beard coat (shop more VB coats here), Valentino shoes, Chanel bag
I used to dress corporate--wayyy back in the day.  So, naturally, I haven't given up my love for lightweight, wool trousers.  In fact, I'll dub this my token holiday party outfit; a little red, a little fur, a little risqué (the deep-v blouse)--but still with smart trousers and a closed-toe pump.  What's that saying?  You can take the girl out of corporate America...

Who am I kidding?  I sold my soul the first day I was able to wear jeans to work.

PS. While I don't work in a business casual environment anymore, I still know the clothes!  Check out Everlane for awesome work basics and Vince blouses and Theory separates are safe bets, too.

Simple With a Statement (See Jane Wear)

sweater, jeans, belt, boots (inspired by this pair),  similar bag

I couldn't resist it--I bought this Gucci belt at Nordstrom as a little birthday gift to myself.  (FYI: it's men's and to get my size, I measured at my waist where the belt would most likely hit and converted that to inches...I'm wearing an 85). It's just a belt, yes, but it's such a statement that it looks great with the simplest of outfits.  Plus, a chunky, textured turtleneck sweater?  I have yet to meet one I don't love and this Madewell sweater from Nordstrom is no different (also love this AYR one and this fair isle turtleneck); throw on your favorite jeans and some booties and you look like a street style star--along with the statement belt, of course.  I have a feeling this outfit and iterations of it will be on repeat because we're in store for a looooong winter.  Better stock up on this stuff now before spring/resort hits the stores (here in Chicago, it's cold until May). For those you want to impress and gift an outfit like this, Nordstrom guarantees Christmas delivery if you order by the 23rd!

Shiny Pleats (See Jane Wear)

skirt (also love this skirtthis skirt and this tibi skirt), top, shoes (look for less here), Chanel bag (look for less here)
Shiny.  Fancy.  Fun.  These are all adjectives that you want to use to describe your holiday wardrobe. Usually it just takes a couple pieces from Nordstrom to crank up the yuletide joy (I have my eye on this sequin skirt for NYE and this jacket, too).  Anyway, back to the Trouvé skirt that I picked up from Nordstrom; wow perfect would this outfit be for Christmas dinner (the final date for guaranteed Christmas delivery is 12/23!)or for a New Year's Eve house party?  If you really want to channel Studio 54, just add this shimmery halter top (also Trouvé via Nordstrom)!  I just feel like you can't overdo it with metallics and sequins over the holidays and I intend to take full advantage of this rule (that I just made up).

What are you doing for the holidays AND what are you wearing?

Recent Wears (See Jane Wear Lately)

Vince sweater (shop Vince sweaters here), Paige jeans (shop Paige here),
Halogen booties (now on sale!)

Whew - what an emotionally draining week it's been!  I'm officially back at work and while I've been through this drill before, it may be even tougher leaving behind TWO kids.  Harry is old enough to understand where I'm going and Teddy won't remember a thing but it doesn't make it easier leaving his precious little face every day--especially when he's starting to develop a personality!  Work, stay at home, a little of both--us moms can't win (or have it all).'

Now that I'm back to the grind, I thought I'd try and share a weekly recap of what I'm up to on Instagram (follow along here).

Have a great weekend!
Zara sweater (similar and shop tie sleeves here), Chloé bag, Frame jeans (shop Frame here)
LL Bean boots (similar here and less expensive version here)
+ fresh cut wreath from Home Depot was $6!!
Vince sweater, Gucci belt (my new pet!), J Brand jeans (fun fact: I've had this exact pair for six years and I still wear them! shop more J Brand here), Saint Laurent boots

Holiday Red Dress (See Jane Wear)

black halo dress  - also here (shop more black halo here), valentino pumps - on sale! (shop nude pumps here),
chanel bag (shop vintage chanel here)
I couldn't BE more festive (said in my best Chandler Bing voice).

Whether it's an upcoming holiday soiree or a New Year's Eve bash, a red dress couldn't be more appropriate.  It's such a statement and people really do take notice to the little red dress; it commands attention.  So how 'bout it...will you be wearing a red dress this holiday season?  You have until Valentine's Day to decide (shop red dresses HERE).  Speaking of the little red dress, here are some of my favorites from around the web:

Suede OTK Boots (See Jane Wear)

stuart weitzman boots, old alc dress (similar here and here), similar navy coat (and love this slouchy topshop one),
sunglasses, chanel bag (similar), nars 'dragon girl' lip pencil
My pair of black Stuart Weitzman 'lowland' boots were a no-brainer.  I bought them three years ago from Nordstrom and the CPS (cost per wear) is insanely low--they might even be free by now (thanks, Chicago winters)!  When the 'thighland' debuted this fall at Nordstrom, I knew I had to add them to my repertoire--that cognac suede and low (see: walkable) heel just spoke to me.  Plus, I knew if I wore them as much as my black OTK boots, they'd be well worth it.  So far so good, plus I have a long winter ahead of me. (And if you're worried about suede in the winter, a suede protectant spray from any drugstore before you wear will suffice.)

I realize that the price of these boots isn't always justifiable but you're in luck, because at Nordstrom there are so many great alternatives (but I can personally vouch for how awesome the Stuart Weitzman OTK boots have treated me over the years).  Here is my running list of other great OTK boots that you can add to your collection just in time for winter:

steve madden - same color and heel height!
sole society - a more rugged version of my pair
dune london - a lighter color but chic nonetheless
via spigia - a chunkier heel, but would look awesome with jeans
marc fisher - a close replica in a neutral taupe
hinge - perfect heel height and slightly rounded toe

It goes without saying that these would make a great gift, too.  Shoes can be a personal gift (there's something about feet...) but if you nail it, you're forever golden.  So, trust me on the above pairs and if you have sizing questions on the Stuart Weitzman pairs, let me know (I purchased my normal size in both pairs).  Nordstrom's last shipping day for guaranteed Christmas delivery is December 23!

Gearing Up For The Holidays (See Jane Get Merry)

This is your official warning: it's December.  I know - I'll let you take that in for a moment.  If you're like me, you're about to launch into a frenzy to get everything done.  My advice: get it done but take some moments to enjoy yourself.  So, order those Christmas cards (these are mine - aren't my boys precious?) this weekend, get them out within the week, bake those holiday treats and blast your favorite Christmas music as loud as you can.

Minted is my one stop shop for both holiday cards and also gifts for the grandparents (15% all gifts until 12/12!).  They make the cutest collages and will even frame them for you - does it get any easier than that? Full disclosure: Minted gifted me these holiday cards, but I've bought them myself from them for the past three years and would have bought them again this year .  I promise you won't be disappointed with the customer service, design selections and turnaround time.

Check out my card from last year, too:

The Puffy Sweater (See Jane Wear)

I know that I reference Seinfeld quite a bit, but how can you not think of the 'puffy' shirt when you see this sweater?  That doesn't mean I don't love it--it's super fun and chic.  (shop endless rose HERE--one of the puffy sweater brands that bloggers love) Honestly, if you can't laugh about your clothes once in awhile then you probably aren't having any fun.  I love looking back at things I wore even a few years ago and saying to myself, 'what was I thinking?!'  Except wearing Juicy Couture smocked tube dresses as tops when we out in college (flare jeans on the bottom, of course)--I definitely regret that.
