Give the Gift of Warmth (See Jane Give)

cardigan, jeans, similar boots  // 2nd photos: similar coat, turtleneck
If I wanted to give a snuggly, cozy gift to someone this year, I COULD give them Jerome (I mean, look at that chunk!) but I'd miss him too much..and Eric would kill me for giving away his soulmate.  Ok, so I can't give you an English Bulldog, but what's the next best thing?  I'll tell you:  a cozy, nubby knit from Nordstrom.  I have a hard time resisting anything cozy and I assure you that your gift recipient won't be disappointed when they find one of these Nordstrom knits under the tree.  The best part?  Everything is under $100!  I live in a very cold climate, so I collect these sweaters each winter.  I've never been disappointed with a cool sweater as a gift and Nordstrom has a ton of them--here are my favorites:

Give Thanks and Get Shopping (See Jane Grateful)

To those in the US: Happy Thanksgiving!  It's really been fun sharing with you all over the years.  I started this blog in 2010 on a cold, wintry Saturday on a complete whim and can honestly say that I still love blogging, even though the industry itself has so much since I started (in fact, it wasn't even an industry when I started!).  If you've been reading here a long time, you've seen lots of changes in my life but hopefully you also know that I have a lot to be grateful for--you, as a reader, included.  Thank you for allowing me to share one of my greatest passions with you: style.

Speaking of style, if you're anything like me and want to avoid clean-up at the dinner table, it's a great time to check out the inter webs for the Black Friday sales.  Here's what I'm finding (I will continue to update this as sales pop up):

40% everything at J Crew (loving this sweater, this coat, and this blazer)

Buy more/save more at Shopbop (it's a great time to take advantage of brands that rarely go on sale. I'm shopping Petersyn, all Shoshanna dresses, cashmere sweaters, or anything shearling.)

25% everything at rag & bone (stocking up on hats for Eric and eyeing this camel coat for myself)

20% everything at ASOS (love this burgundy coat)

Extra 20% sale at Nordstrom (I love this Chanel-esque jacket, I think I need this sweater, a casual dress for the holidays, and an awesome jacket )

50% at Gap (obsessed with these shoes, I'll never say no to a fisherman's sweater or a classic navy coat.)

Extra 30% sale at Club Monaco plus a percentage off your total order (I'd like this jumpsuit, pleasethis sweater is super fun, and these Gucci-esque loafer pumps are awesome)

20% off everything at Minted (that's where I got my holiday cards this year!)

Extra 25% off sale at Vince (great time to stock up on cozy knits like this turtleneck, cardigan and these knee-high boots)

$50 off at M Gemi (love these boots and flats)

Happy Shopping!  Keep an eye out for more sales as I continue to update this page.

Trading Up (See Jane Wear)

scarf (also love this plaid scarf and I'd splurge on this one), old blazer (similar here and look for less here), jeans, dickey, boots

Remember when I was waxing on about scarves being my favorite accessory a couple weeks ago?  Yeah, they still are--and I'm still buying them from Nordstrom.  A simple scarf can totally transform an outfit.  And here's something else I've realized about scarves over the years: they make your outfit look expensive.  Women in scarves, men in scarves--doesn't matter..scarves are like trading up your basic outfit for a much richer model.

So now that you know my secret, I'll let you in on another tip--scarves don't have to BE expensive to look expensive.  This super soft scarf I'm wearing is less than $40 from Nordstrom--believe it!  A few others that look much more expensive than they are (and trust me--I saw them for myself at Nordstrom because I basically am there every other day) this grid pattern scarf and this blanket scarf.  The moral of the story is this: scarves should be your go-to accessory this season and every fall/winter from here on out--the return on investment is real, after all!

Have a very Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow!  Show up in a scarf and really wow the relatives.

A Day In The Life with Ann Taylor (See Jane Wear)

coat, sweater (also love this one), pants, shoes, silk scarf (all Ann Taylor - c/o)
I'm working with Ann Taylor to show you what amazing, key pieces they have for the holiday season.  I might have left the corporate world a few years ago but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate tailored wear--and Ann Taylor has really become a haven for chic pieces.  Come on - these pants are velvet for goodness sake!  But really, Ann Taylor has become a destination for chic, tailored pieces that are on trend and they're perfect for my busy, working mom lifestyle.  Velvet pants and the perfect silk scarf (the new Silk Littles line has gorgeous prints!) go from the cubicle to a champagne toast so effortlessly; this houndstooth coat will look awesome over a holiday red sweater and dark denim.  No matter where you live or what you do, it's always good to have some fun, holiday pieces that can be worn several ways sitting in your closet--and Ann Taylor has you covered.

White Elephant Gift Guide (See Jane Give)

It's the end of November (in fact, today is my birthday! 32 years...young) and here in Chicago, the weather has finally turned cold which could only mean one thing: the holidays are here.  I don't know about you, but suddenly, I have a ton of presents to buy.  Nordstrom is always my one stop shop (they literally have everything) as I often have very specific things to buy.  But what about when you have a White Elephant or gift exchange with girlfriends?  Those always stumped me so I compiled a list of great gifts from Nordstrom that many would love to give just as much as they'd love to receive.

Swell bottles - my husband and I use these around the house--they're amazing!
Sugar Lip Crush Set - hands down, the best lip balm out there.  And I hate to buy it for myself because of the price tag (and doesn't that make the best kind of gift?)
Festive PJs - you need to wear SOMETHING on Christmas morning, so they might as well be fun and cozy.
The Magnolia Story - find me someone who doesn't love the Gaines; seriously, they're HGTV's perfect couple and it'd be the best coffee table book (that I'd actually read).
Knit trapper hat - because everyone needs an Uncle Eddie hat.
Cozy socks - show me someone who claims they don't love a cozy slipper sock and I'll show you a liar.  They're like clouds on your feet!
Not pictured:
Food & Beer book - the title alone is a selling point.
Marble + wood cake stand - you always need more stuff to clutter up the kitchen counter!
Sugarfina bento box - if you're really stuck on what to give, sugar always works.
Diptyque candle - C is for candle AND cliché; we all know candles for gifts are the ultimate cliché but they are the perfect gift because you hate buying them for yourself (this is my FAVORITE scent).
Plush throw - perfect for the office, home or shoulders as a chic poncho.

I Really Love My... (See Jane Wear Over and Over Again)

veda jacket here and here

When you know you know, right?  Well, I didn't know about this jacket at first.  In fact, my friend bought it from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale LAST year and ended up buying a different leather jacket so she was about to return it when I said, "Maybe I'll buy it from you."  So I did...and never looked back.  Rusty (yeah, it's a he) and I have been through a lot of seasons together and I must admit: he keeps getting better with age.

See how I wore it: with flares, with fur, with a dress and transitioning for fall.  I even wore it pregnant!

The Best Leather Jacket (See Jane Wear)

bro jacket (look for less here), sweater (similar version here), jeans,
shoes (love this velvet block heel!), bag, scarf (last photo)
I love leather jackets, but when I first started buying them, I never loved the jacket enough to wear after one season.  THE perfect leather jacket can be hard to find...and I found it at Nordstrom.  My must-have criteria for this elusive staple? Supple, slightly broken-in (I like instant gratification--it's the millennial in me) and it has to fit perfectly.  Tall order, right?  So far, Veda and IRO jackets from Nordstrom have fit the bill for me and the cost per wear has been amazing; they fit perfectly and are reminiscent of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants in that they look good on anyone.  But really--next time you're at Nordstrom, try one on for size and let me know what you think.  I wear leather jackets several days a week, so it's worth the investment and when I'm going to drop that kind of money, it'd better be damn near perfect; luckily, they are.

Fall Maxi Skirt (See Jane Wear)

skirt (similar here and less expensive version here), similar sweater (also similar)
booties (similar here and less expensive version here), chanel bag (similar)lipstick: 'vesuvio'

This outfit may not scream '90s' to you but I'd like to thinking I'm channeling a modern Elaine Benes.  In the early seasons, she was always rocking midi skirts and sweaters (blazers, too) and as soon as I put this on, I thought, 'yep, I'm going to Jerry's apartment.'

But seriously, I love that this ALC skirt from Nordstrom can be just as easily worn with chunky turtlenecks as it could with a slinky cami (which I plan on doing tonight in Palm Springs).  But I live my life in a cold, Midwestern city and the jeans/boots combination gets old quickly; Nordstrom has tons of perfect chunky knits that I already buy, but I paired them with a midi skirt to inject some freshness into my wardrobe.  When it came to shoes, Elaine would've donned some keds, but I stayed true to myself and went for some fall booties (although, Nordstrom has some awesome white sneakers that would've looked super unexpected and hip).  So there we have it: the modern-day Elain Benes, which is totally appropriate for my life right now as Teddy has a very George Constanza hairline at the moment.

The Oversized Scarf (See Jane Wear)

scarf (similar oversized scarf here and here), legging jeans, turtleneck sweater, black booties,
otk boots (less expensive version here), similar quilted bag here and here
An oversized scarf is my go-to accessory in the colder months.  I know, I know...everyone says that, but, as a born and raised Midwesterner, we know how to dress for the cold.  We've been wrapping big scarves around our necks wayyyy before they were cool.  This particular scarf from Nordstrom is as soft and cuddly as a puppy--I give it my 'harsh winter' seal of approval.  Nordstrom has so many scarves that fit the bill (some of my favorites are here, here and here).  But warmness aside, scarves are my favorite accessory as they can totally enhance an outfit; check them out on're functional AND fashionable.

Fine Wine x Minted Giveaway (See Jane Give)

Veda jacket (shop suede jackets HERE + less expensive version), sold out ALC dress (shop ALC dresses HEREsimilar version here and here),
Chanel bag (shop vintage Chanel HERE)Steve Madden shoes (shop ankle strap pumps HERE similar here and here)

Did you notice that once the pumpkins and Halloween decor are stored away, they're instantly replaced with Christmas trees and holiday trimmings?  Where's the grace period?  As a kid, it seemed like an excruciatingly long time.  Now, as an adult, the holidays are all said and done in a blink of an eye.  In fact, I'm ordering my holiday cards this week so I can send them out by the end of the month.  Early?  Sure, but it's one less thing to think about.  I want to help you all out, too; I've teamed up with Minted to give away a $100 Minted credit to three lucky readers!  Getting out Christmas cards is always such a relief to me, so I figured, the earlier you order them, the better.  To enter, it's simple: click this link and sign up via email.  I will announce the winners next week.
I have always loved using Minted for my photos (here is my holiday card from last year that I ordered from Minted) because of their fun and fresh designs.  Here are a few of my favorites this year, in case you're looking for some inspiration:

Be sure to enter this week so you, too, can get that holiday card ordering done and out of the way.  (Plus, Minted generally runs sales where they give a certain percentage off a total, so that's just another bonus of ordering through them!)  The holidays will be here before you know it.  Good luck!

The Best Of Fall.. (See Jane Wear)

"I re-wear my clothes," said the blogger.  But really, I do.  I promise.  If you've been following me for awhile, you know that the above items look awfully familiar.  Could I WEAR that camel coat any more?! (..said in my best Chandler Bing voice.)

But, I'll admit it:  I buy a lot of stuff.  I'm a big shopper--it's my job.  But, I also know when to invest and when to save.  I also have taught myself that when I buy something with a hefty price tag, that I need to imagine wearing it three different ways with what's already in my closet.  I also challenge myself to wear pieces differently each time I wear them.

I also regularly purge my closet.  City living has conditioned me to not let items hang out for the sake of filling my closet--space is too precious.  For the most part, I donate nearly all of my clothing that I don't need anymore (I do have some purses I want to sell, though, so I created a Tradesy account to see how it goes--if anyone has any suggestions on how they sell their bags, let me know.  I might try eBay?).

So here is what I will definitely be re-wearing that you saw on the blog last fall (and check out my October recap from last year) along with some curated items that that you can either spend or splurge on--I found some awesome pieces, so see for yourself:

Your turn - what are you pulling back out from last year's (and beyond!) wardrobe?
