Hat Struggles (See Jane Wear/Not Care)

Vince sweater coat (old but similar), Club Monaco sweater,
BDG high-rise white jeans (similar), J Crew heels, Mansur Gavriel tote,
ASOS camel coat, rag & bone floppy brim fedora (yes, I wear a large)
I've never been a hat person.  I always felt a little self-conscious in them, but they're so darn cute that I can't resist wearing one from time to time.  My hesitation stems from the fact that I inherited my dad's head and frankly, it's not the most conducive shape for hat-wearing (it it oblong? it is a trapezoid?).  Fortunately, as I've grown up, I've realized that I also inherited my dad's "I don't give a damn" gene and we wear hats anyway.

Let it also be noted that my dad's head has been passed onto Harry so I already fear and anticipate his hat-wearing struggles.  Let's hope he also got the "I don't give a damn" gene.

I Really Love My... (See Jane's Ripped Jeans)

outfit 1 / outfit 2 / outfit 3 / outfit 4
When I buy a pair of jeans, I expect to wear them for a looooooong time.  I bought these rag & bone 'busted out knee' jeans two years ago and I will wear them until the cows come home.  They've endured many office days, lazy weekends, hell, even a pregnancy (see pic with yellow scarf--I was about 14 weeks along).  Sure, in two years the holes in the knees are stretching out,  but there isn't a time that I ever put on these jeans that I think "nah."

Neutrality (See Jane Wear)

ASOS camel coat (sold out but similar here and here), ASOS sweater (similar - worn here and here),
Zara oversized white shirt (similar), rag & bone ripped jeans, J Crew leopard heels.
Mansur Gavriel camel tote, Saint Laurent sunglasses
Each season I wear the hell out of a few items--the cost per wear becomes pennies.  The 2014/2015 winter weather months will be known as the 'Camel Coat Era.'  I wear this thing ALL.THE.TIME.  Proof here, here and here.

And to prove that I get attached to my clothes, a few years ago, it was my gray cocoon coat (worn here, here, and here).

Buffalo Soldier (See Jane Wear)

You think a jacket as memorable as this would get brushed aside in my closet, but I grab for this piece more than I thought I would.  It brightens my mood even on the dreariest of winter days (and those come often, as you can imagine in the land where the only seasons are winter and not-winter).

See how I wore it HERE, HERE, and HERE.

Black and Tan (See Jane Wear)

Zara scarf (sold out but similar), ASOS camel coat, rag & bone jeans,
rag & bone hat, Cuyana bag (c/o), Acne 'pistol' boots
When you live in Chicago, it's hard to keep your winter wardrobe feeling fresh.  While everyone is wearing their plaid, blanket scarves draped over their shoulders in a shawl-like fashion (I do it, too, especially in my chilly office), I decided to tie my oversized scarf on as a tighter capelet on my shoulders.  Bonus: it was nice to change it up and my shoulders felt extra toasty.

The Best Puffer Coats (See Jane Shop)

Alright, I give in.  I'm succumbing to the puffer coat.  As a Chicagoan, this shouldn't surprise you.  I held out for as long as I could--the last one I owned was in college (where you need one to walk from class to class).  I just bought a new puffer coat because I don't have anything to defend me against -40 degree temperatures.  Here are a few of my favorites (and I scored a Duvetica on sale at Nordstrom last week, but sadly it's no longer online):

If you follow me on instagram, you know that Harry is bundled up, too!

Gossip Girl (See Jane Wear)

Echo hat (via Nordstrom), American Rag sweater (old but similar), vintage fur stole (similar),
Zara skirt (similar) Stuart Weitzman 'lowland' boots, Chanel boy bag
Eight years after it's debut to the world and here I am dressing like an extra on Gossip Girl.

In wintertime, you have to mix it up--and how is that?  Accessories.  I tire of the same jeans and boots combinations (although it does become a bit of a uniform, but when you add cozy scarves, hats and stoles (like these, from Nordstrom), it suddenly becomes a bit different.  Luckily, I can wear beanies to work, so it's fair that I've collected a few over the years.

Shop some of my favorite accessories form Nordstrom below and tell me you jazz up your winter wardrobe (because I can always use tips)!

Cozy Camel Wrap (See Jane Wear)

Echo scarf poncho via Nordstrom, rag & bone hat, rag & bone jeans,
Mansur Gavriel bag, Stuart Weitzman 'lowland' boots
When one lives in Chicago, one can never own too many soft knits.  This Echo wrap from Nordstrom is the epitome of cozy.   This wrap is as versatile as they come--I wrap it around several times as a scarf some days and drape it over my shoulders the next when I'm chilly in the office.  Plus, it's lightweight enough to layer under my heavy winter coats.
