Casual Essentials - Summer Edition (See Jane Dress Down)

It's all about the casual look for me these days.  Until I go back to work in July,  I'm donning whatever's most comfortable.  Luckily, it will soon be summer (at least, us in the midwest hope so) and it's easy to look put together with minimal effort.

sneakers - so I can still look stylin' when I go on long walks with Harry.
overall shorts - I am admittedly not a huge fan of the overall trend (pants version), but for some reason, I can get on board with the shorts version.
fancy sandals - to pair with the pajamas that you DO wear outside.
parasol tote - the quintessential, fancy beach tote.
pj pants - the next best thing to sweatpants--and they are appropriate in public!
sunglasses - why can't your sunglasses have some fun, too?
maxi dress - because there's no easier way to look put together in the summer
palm tree tee - pair with your favorite jorts.
floppy hat - I'm almost 30 so I'm swapping out my mirrors/oil (kidding) at the pool for wide-brimmed hats.

Mom Jeans (See Jane Wear)

JOA top, J Brand jeans (cheaper version here), Chanel bag, J Crew leopard heels, Ray Ban mirrored aviators
These jeans are normally "boyfriend" style, meaning effortlessly loose and distressed.  Well, now that I'm a mom, they're uncomfortably snug--and they remind me a bit of mom jeans.  You know what, though?  I'll proudly wear that badge of honor until they return to their cool/baggy state.  No complaints from me; I'm actually weaseled my way into a pair of non-stretch denim which I never thought would happen again (and yes, I'm dramatic).

Spring Black (See Jane Wear)

Equipment top (similar/on sale!), 7 for mankind jeans (similar here), Saint Laurent sunglasses, Manolo Blahnik heels, Marc Jacobs bag via Nordstrom
Bear with me, here.  I plan on posting more than once a week--I promise!

I've teamed up with Nordstrom to highlight their spring bag collection.  I've always been a bag lover and come spring, I'm always looking for one that will carry me through the warmer months but also one that I will want to wear any time of year.  A few springs back, I bought this Marc Jacobs bag at Nordstrom and although one doesn't always associate black with warmer months, I carry them year round!  This bag is the perfect accompaniment to a black tie wedding OR in a city like Chicago, that never heats up (seriously, I'll be wearing black all year here).

Check out some of my other spring bag picks below!  (One of them WILL be mine--I'm certain of it.)

Baby Harry's First Photos (See Jane Frame)

Don't worry--I won't be turning this into a mommy blog, BUT the first-time mom in me knows it's inevitable that I show off a few pictures of this sweet, little nugget.  My friend, Marena, is an awesome family photographer here in Chicago, so if you're ever in need of professional photography be sure to check her out!  I'll be the first person to admit that newborn photos can be a bit cheesy (too much unnatural propping), but Marena does a great job of capturing newborns in their natural element--you know, sleeping!  Plus, nothing is cuter than a swaddled baby, am I right?

I'll be sure to show off Harry's birth announcement on instagram soon (don't want to spoil it for those receiving it!).

Blackberry Avocado Smoothie (See Jane Make)

I know, I know, green smoothies are all the rage and I admittedly partake in the trend, almost daily.  But sometimes, it's good to shake things up.  I had a bunch of blackberries that I had to use immediately and I've read that people use avocados in lieu of bananas in smoothies (I like a slight banana taste, so used half of both).  Enter: the Avocado Blackberry Bliss.  (I named it myself!)  Would you try this smoothie combo?

- half an avocado
- handful of blackberries (fresh or frozen)
- handful of strawberries (fresh or frozen)
- 1 t. chia seeds
- 1/2 c. almond milk
- half a banana (optional)

- 1/2 c. kale or spinach (optional)

And I'm Back (See Jane Wear...Post-Baby)

Gap sweatshirt dress, J Crew denim jacket, J Crew gladiator sandals (old but similar), Cuyana bag (c/o), Saint Laurent sunglasses
It's been three weeks since I had baby Harry.  B.B. (before baby) , I totally thought I'd be back into my jeans by now; I am now realizing how delusional I was pre-baby.  In all honestly, it's hardly a priority for me right now.  Yes, I love clothes and would love to regain a little normalcy in my life, but it took me nine months to gain the weight and I've come to terms with the fact that my initial timeline wasn't quite realistic.  Besides, my focus is on my little bébé right now and not my rag & bone jeans; plus, what better excuse to wear lots of dresses this spring/summer?
