Salted Hot Chocolate (See Jane Make + Drink)

anthropologie mugs, target napkins
While the rest of you are partaking in merriment during the next few weeks, there may be days when you need to dry out from the alcohol.  Luckily, I can help you with this, as pregnancy is keeping me away from all things booze.  While salted hot chocolate isn't quite the same as champagne, it'll suffice for now.  Top it with marshmallows or whipped cream (or both, if you're feeling saucy)--there's no wrong way!
4 cups milk
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
3/4 cup white sugar
1 T vanilla
1/2 t sea salt
crushed candy canes (optional)
whipped cream (optional)

In a saucepan, heat milk, cocoa powder and sugar until it starts to lightly boil.  Turn down to very low and simmer while adding vanilla and sea salt.

Dark Checks (See Jane Wear)

Vince sweater, Gap skirt (old but similar), Vince Camuto boots,
Zara coat (old but similar), Zara scarf (similar), 3.1 Phillip Lim bag
Pairing neutrals the easiest thing to do when I have no idea to what to wear in the morning.  I hate to say it, but with the weather we've been having in Chicago so far, I am already sick of winter clothing.  To keep myself from hating another sweater and boots combination, I paired black, navy (tough to tell, but the coat is navy and skirt/boots are black) and gray along with some over the knee boots to stall the winter blahs.  (And yes, this skirt is the definition of Old Faithful; I've been wearing it for years now...here, here, here & here)

Oh Boy (See Jane Wear)

Rag & Bone jeans (I can only wear them with a belly band), Equipment Grace top (c/o),
J Crew coat, Zara boots, TOMS sunglasses, vintage Gucci clutch, lips: NARS dragon girl

Remember when I said I wasn't going to find out the sex of the baby?  Well, I lied.  I couldn't help myself once I was at my 20-week ultrasound; to those who can resist finding out, I commend you--I really do.  And the verdict?  I thought I'd wear lots of blue and gray for the occasion, because it's a boy!

I'd been wondering when my bump would finally arrive (since I'm now 22 weeks).  Well, I'm wondering no more--I've popped (below) and carrying VERY low.

Easy Christmas Centerpiece Arrangement (See Jane DIY)

I discovered the easiest way to decorate my house without a.) breaking the bank and b.) breaking my back.  I keep my decor simple because I think that the best Christmas decorations are the ones that you acquire over the years.  Since I'm at the beginning of my decoration tenure, I decided I wanted greenery that I could stick in some vases so my house smelled like a forest for the remainder of December.

I bought a bunch of holiday greens (they include various branches and they smell delicious) for about $8 and winterberry for $10 (all at Whole Foods).  I spent less than $20 filling about 7 vases within my house; if that's not a deal, I don't know what is.  White vases really compliment the red and green and you can easily find them at consignment and second-hand stores.  Then, compliment with simple gold candles (I bought all these at Target for than than $3 each), et voila!  You've started your own decor tradition (that is, until you have a whole attic full of decorations).

Gift Guide: Cufflinks (See Jane Give)

Cufflinks seems a bit more personalized than say, a tie.  You're able to add a little spunk into a guy's wardrobe without being too ostentatious.  Eric only uses cufflinks when he wears a suit, which is about once a week (sometimes less), but even so, he loves having a variety to choose from--and they make a great gift (it's definitely something men don't like buying for themselves, I've noticed). The David Donahue Collection at Nordstrom has more choices than you can imagine; you'll be sure to find a pair that suits (get it?) his unique personality.

Snow Baby (See Jane Wear)

Zara coat (sold out but similar), Zara sweater (similar), Helmut Lang suede leggings, Vince hat (c/o),
Ray Ban sunglasses, Vince Camuto boots
Looks like winter is here to stay.  We had our first big snow yesterday in Chicago and I only left the house for coffee and a movie; only a big parka and sweater were needed.  Speaking of big, I think I'm finally getting my 'bump.'  I'm 21 weeks and although I said I wouldn't, I found out the sex at the anatomy scan (I have zero willpower).  What do you think--boy or girl?

Gift Guide: Fun Accessories (See Jane Give)

Accessories may be the perfect gift.  One size (usually) fits all and they can (sometimes) be worn all year round.  Personally, I love receiving jewelry as a gift because I'm not the best at picking out my own.  If you're looking for unique jewelry options, be sure to check out Loren Hope, a line known for their vivid colors and handcrafted, quality pieces.  Whether you gift a neon beanie or a statement necklace, it's certain that whomever is on the receiving end will appreciate the fact that you thought outside the box when thinking of them--and that's the best gift of all!

Hello Weekend (See Jane Celebrate)

Zara coat (similar here and here), Rag & Bone cords, J Crew pumps, 3.1 Phillip Lim bag
Do you notice anything different about the blog?  I'd like to give a huge thanks to fellow Chicagoan, Holly Wang, for her help in redesigning my site.  Hopefully it's a bit easier for you to navigate and get around!  Also, I finally bit the bullet and bought the domain www.seeannajane.com (to align with my social media names) so please bookmark it accordingly.

Anyone else think this week has been way too long?  It's always tough to get back into the groove after a holiday.  As you can see in this photo, I'm gingerly walking towards the weekend.  TGIF!

Cocoon Coat (See Jane Wear)

ASOS coat, Zara sweater (old but similar), J Brand jeans, Chanel bag,
sweet & spark earrings (c/o), J Crew pumps
As this pregnancy progresses, I'm gravitating towards oversized clothing.  I think that's the opposite approach you're supposed to take (most maternity clothing is tight so that you can show off that bump!) but I'm not quite "popping" yet so I'm struggling to dress for these in between stages.  Until I really start to show, I'll most likely be wrapping myself in oversized sweaters and cocoon-like coats.

Savory + Spicy Glazed Mixed Nuts (See Jane Make)

If you're like me, you might use the holidays as an excuse to test out new recipes and to be the bearer of treats/snacks wherever you go.  Unfortunately for everyone, these delicious rosemary and chipotle nuts never made it out of my house; my sister and I ate all the evidence.  These spicy and savory nuts (recipe here) are perfect to set on the table for company or to add to any gift basket.  Trust me, your guests (or the recipients of these gifts) will thank you.
