Cuyana Bag (See Jane Carry)

Rag & Bone jeans, J Crew chambray shirt, J Crew metallic pumps, KW sunglasses, Cuyana leather tote (c/o)
Meet Cuyana: a leather company based out of San Francisco.  They make beautiful bags, accessories, clothes and live by the motto that it's better to acquire less and instead, have more of what you truly love.  I strive to live a more simplistic life (and trust me, it's hard, especially when blogging is your hobby), but I do love their message.  The company is very cool and they offer amazing products, like this bag.  This leather tote is absolutely perfect for work.  If you schlep your computer back and forth from the office like I do, then you'll appreciate a lightweight bag with ample room.

Check the company out when you get the chance; I think you'll find that the products are beautiful and the prices are totally fair.

And one more Jerome shot because he's so unbelievably handsome...

Hawaiian Punch (See Jane Wear)

Equipment dress (old but similar style), Zara heels (similar), Clare Vivier clutch (c/o W Concept)

There's a few traditions on display here: first, this weekend I did my 2nd annual hair chop; as summer comes to a close, I tend to get antsy and end up cutting a good amount of hair (here was last year's version).  Next, this is the third summer in a row wearing this dress (last summer and the summer prior); I wish I could say this is true for all of my clothes, but a dress that has this much lasting power deserves to be recognized.

Black + White Hot (See Jane Wear)

J Crew top, Current/Elliott jeans (c/o W Concept), Zara heels (old but similar),
Celine bag, Karen Walker sunglasses
Remember that glimpse of fall we had a few weeks back?  Well, it's over; summer's here again.  I'm in a pants-wearing rut right now (and avoiding all my dresses and skirts, it seems) so to change it up, I'm gravitating towards a monochromatic look.  Add some black accents and it looks like you're ready for fall (but not quite--I'm still enjoying this weather!).

PS And don't forget to enter the H&M 50 States of Fashion contest (it ends today!)!  Here's how:

Wine Country (See Jane Travel)

Joie top, Target denim shorts (shredded myself...my inspiration), See by Chloe sandals (on sale), Urban Outfitters panama hat (old but similar), Chloe bag (old but love this one)

Eric and I headed out to California this weekend to celebrate a friend's 30th birthday (do you remember Jan?).  It was actually my first trip up to wine country (which is sad considering I spent over two years working in San Francisco) and we had an awesome time.  It's fun to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and live simply once in awhile; sometimes all you need is good (and new) friends, good conversation, and some good wine.

Found: Denim Pencil Skirt (See Jane Find...and Wear)

Zara skirt, Gap blouse (old but similar), J Crew belt (old), Super sunglasses, J Crew pumps (similar)
Remember when I waxed poetically about this distressed, denim, pencil skirt?  I had grand plans to find a vintage one, tear it up myself, and wear it with pride.  Then, I checked the sale rack at Zara and called off the manhunt.  To avoid looking like a schoolteacher from the 80s, I wore silver pumps paired with bed head.  People at work were intrigued with the skirt yesterday; the best comment was, "your skirt is either really old or really new--which is it?"  Suffice to say, I love this skirt.

Want your own denim pencil skirt?  Similar options here, here and here (the Zara one is sold out).

Now that you all know that H&M is available to shop online, have you had the chance to peruse?  I know, I know, it's still summer but I'm already thinking of ways to spruce up the ol' fall wardrobe (but without going crazy of course).

Simply Camouflaged (See Jane Wear....Last)

The camo trend has been around for awhile and I personally thought that I would never get on board.  I pride myself on not succumbing to every trend that comes along; sure, I dabble in many trends every year, but ultimately try to stay true to my own personal style.  I suppose that camouflage jeans are now part of my style--the neutral color is hard to stay away from and to be honest, they fit pretty well into my arsenal.

How about you--are you on board the camo-train?

Gap printed camo jeans, Cheap Monday chambray shirt (old but similar), Joie loafers, Chloe bucket bag
(old but cheaper/similar version), Super sunglasses

Transition Mode (See Jane Wear)

J Crew tweed tee, Madewell leather skirt (options below), Gap flats (similar), 3.1 Phillip Lim bag
Since I work at a fashion start-up, I'm suddenly surrounded by plaids, wools and other fall textures; it's hard not to assimilate even though the weather is still warm.  Leather will be back in full force again this fall and every time I pull out this skirt, I'm so glad I purchased it a couple years ago.  It's almost season-less since I'm able to wear it so often.  When I bought it back in 2011, it seemed like a somewhat frivolous purchase (how many times will I wear a leather skirt, I thought), but I'm glad I bit the bullet--it's a closet staple for me.

(**Here's a few different alternatives for this skirt since it's been sold out for awhile: this, this and this one.)

Summer Secret (See Jane Wear)

I live in jean shorts and sleeveless button-ups during the summer summer.  Tuck in the shirt and add heels for a more polished look; add flat, slip-on espadrilles and do a half-tuck to the shirt when it's time to tone it down.  And there you have it: the only summer wardrobe secret I know.

Creamy Kale + Avocado Salad (See Jane Be Healthy)

In our household, I'm alone in my love for kale.  I try and sneak it into dinner from time to time but as a whole, Eric simply doesn't like it (and neither does Jerome--I thought dogs ate everything!).  Even so, I buy a bunch almost every week and try to incorporate it into our diets as often as I can.   It's so versatile (remember my smoothie?) and I especially love it in raw form.  I tried a kale avocado salad from Whole Foods one afternoon and was determined to make my own delicious version.  It's not Eric's cup of tea, but hey, different strokes for different folks.  So how about you:  do you say yay or nay to kale?

Kale + Avocado Salad Recipe

1/2 bunch of kale, rinsed and chopped
1 avocado
juice of 1 lemon
2 T extra virgin olive oil
1/2 t salt
1/2 t pepper
1 T apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup hazelnuts, toasted (over low heat in a saucepan)
1/4 cup dried cranberries

Mix liquid ingredients together and set aside.  Take avocado and massage it into kale leaves with a fork.  Mix in liquids and top with hazelnuts and cranberries.  Makes about 4 servings.

An Obvious Combination (See Jane Wear)

Madewell shirt (on sale!), thrifted skirt (similar) + clutch (similar), Zara heels (similar), Karen Walker sunglasses
Sometimes I get in such ruts with pieces in my closet that I ignore the most obvious combinations.  This outfit isn't thrilling nor is it groundbreaking, but it works and I'm a little embarrassed that it took me accidentally pulling this skirt (I was reaching for shorts) to discover it.  I'm not a big 'thrifter' (in fact, these may be the only two pieces I own) but I've had this midi-skirt and red, envelope clutch for a couple years now and they've become staples in my closet (and combined, cost less than dinner--I love that!).

H&M 50 States of Fashion (See Jane Wear)

H&M dress (c/o), J Crew pumps, Gap sunglasses

My style has evolved as I've gotten older and in the past few years, I've been gravitating towards more classic pieces; however, I haven't lost my thirst for trends or a good deal.  H&M has always been a favorite store of mine for stylish pieces--and I end up wearing them a lot!  Some of my favorite H&M pieces already in my closet are this denim dress,  this striped blazer, and this army green anorak (fine, it's my sister's but I still consider it mine).  And guess what:  you can now shop for H&M online.

When H&M reached out and asked that I be an ambassador for Illinois in their 50 States of Fashion promotion, I jumped at the chance to represent my state!  There's something in it for you, too--and for all my Illinois readers, I hope you jump in and help represent our stylish state.  To take part, simply:
  • Upload a photo of your stylish self on Instagram using the hashtag #HMshoponlineIL for a chance to win a $250 H&M gift card (if selected as finalist) or the grand prize of a trip to NYC and shopping spree of $1,000 to H&M .
