Cooking On The Fly (See Jane Make)

Sometimes, you just need a meatball.  I got home from work at 7PM, realized I had no food, ran to the store and came back with the essentials--and still no idea what I was going to cook.  I scrolled through blogs to procrastinate and Liz's meatball recipe caught my eye.  I knew right then and there I needed to make my go-to Turkey Italian meatballs (recipe) right then and there. I also prefer to make my own sauce, so I added crushed tomatoes and fresh basil from my windowsill plant, all served over an easy pasta.  Et voilà:  dinner.

For the meatballs:
1 lb ground turkey
3 cloves garlic
1 t salt
1 t pepper
1/2 t red pepper flakes
1 t italian seasoning
1 egg
1/2 c italian breadcrumbs
handful fresh chopped basil

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl.  Form into meatballs and sauté in olive oil with one onion (diced) over medium heat until browned on all sides.  Add 28 oz. can of crushed tomatoes, salt and pepper to taste for additional half hour.  Serve immediately over pasta.

Cruel Summer (See Jane Wear)

Joie top (on sale!), Current/Elliot jeans (c/o W Concept), Zara heels (similar), Karen Walker sunglasses, Chloe bag (old but love this one)
Fall came early in Chicago this weekend.  What I had hoped would be just another sunny, summer weekend, turned out to be cold and blustery.  It dawned on me that fall is just around the corner, so I dressed in all white in an attempt to grasp on to what summer we have left.  But who am I kidding--I'll probably be wearing more white on white ensembles (like here and here) from here on out.

How was your weekend?  Not as chilly, I hope?

Distressed Denim Skirt (See Jane Want)

image / skirt / blouse / pumps / sunglasses / bag
I've got denim on the brain this week, apparently.  I never thought I would be saying this in my post-college life, but here goes:  I want a denim skirt.  In my defense, I'm not talking about the Abercrombie mini skirt that barely covered my backside and (most likely) had a white ruffle that lined the bottom (admit it, you had one, too); I want a tasteful, slightly distressed pencil skirt that I can wear with a crisp blouse and still feel like I'm dressing like an appropriate 28 year old.

Denim Dress (See Jane Wear)

H&M denim dress (similar), J Crew pumps (love this similar pair), Celine bag, Karen Walker sunglasses (c/o W Concept)
Is this denim dress really just an oversized shirt?  Or maybe it's a coverup.  Either way, I dared to wear it to the office (I work at a fashion start-up, so it was acceptable).  Since it's summer, I feel like I can get away with a little more--especially since I dressed it up a bit by adding a structured bag and pointy leopard pumps.  But don't worry...I'll be wearing it this weekend over my bathing suit, too.  (Talk about a versatile piece of clothing.)

Summertime Scenes (See Jane Enjoy)

Nothing beats a summer weekend--especially in Chicago, when the city truly comes alive.  I had a great weekend at Pitchfork Music Festival (thanks, H&M!), grabbing some drinks at the best outdoor patio in the city (it's called the "Secret Garden), and just enjoying myself.  A few of these photos were posted to instagram, so feel free to follow along here.

How was your weekend?

Anna Banana (See Jane Wear)

J Crew linen tank, Zara maxi skirt (old/rolled up to midi-length), Prada wedges, Clare Viver clutch (c/o W Concept), Gap sunglasses

I wear this tank at least once a week (last seen here).  Why?  Well, for starters it's linen, so in this heat,  I stay comfortable and cool.  Also, it has bananas on it and virtually everyone under the sun called me "Anna Banana" growing up.  To my newer readers who are confused by the fact that my first name isn't Jane, don't worry--it's my middle name.  Here I am:  Anna 'the Banana 'Jane.

#EnglishBulldog (See Jane Obsess)

As you can tell from my instagram, I love my dog Jerome.  He's my little man (Eric and I have affectionately dubbed him "biggie boy" in what sounds like a caveman dialect) and he makes me laugh every single day.  We've had him for just a year now (they grow up so fast) and I'm quickly accumulated bulldog paraphernalia; hell, I even wore a sweatshirt with a Jerome on it.  I fear for what my home will look like in a year; check back then.  (Also, I may be partial to the breed, but Damsel in Dior has some pretty cute bulldogs, too.)

Memoirs of a Geisha (See Jane Wear)

French Connection dress (similar), ShoeMint heels (c/o), Rebecca Minkoff bag
I originally planned on buying this dress (holding out for it to go on sale, of course) but when I saw this French Connection version for half the price at Nordstrom, I quickly snatched it up.  This isn't one of those dresses that I'll wear often, but I do think its classic silhouette and print is one that will stand the test of time for summers to come.  Not everything you own has to be versatile, but it's my rule of thumb that you should absolutely love it.

Boyfriend Shirt Theory (See Jane Wear)

Zara shirt (similar), Target jean shorts (distressed them myself--similar), Prada espadrilles (old but similar), Super sunglasses, 3.1 Phillip Lim bag
Boyfriend shirts perplex me; I've never been able to "borrow" anything from Eric and have it actually look good/normal.  Yes, this shirt has the perfect amount of bagginess in all the right places on me, but I'll have to get my "boyfriend" Eric in it to make sure it also looks great on him--thus, proving the boyfriend shirt theory.  I'm going to hypothesize that my experiment isn't going to go over so well.

Have a great weekend!  (Don't forget to enter the Pitchfork giveaway if you're in Chicago!)

Pitchfork Festival Tickets Giveaway (See Jane Jam)

As some of you may know, I'm an avid music lover.  Ever since I was a wee teenager, I was hitting up indie concerts and jamming out to the latest tunes (don't worry, I never lost my love for boy bands).  As soon as I moved to Chicago, I was attending the city's famous music festivals--Lollapalooza and Pitchfork.  Today, I'm teaming up with H&M and their H&M Loves Music campaign to give away a pair of 3-day passes to the Pitchfork Music Festival on July 19-21 in Chicago.

As we all know, style has become just as big of a part of the festival scene as the music, so to enter, simply leave a comment telling me what you'll wear to Pitchfork if you win the tickets (here's what I wore to Pitchfork a couple years back).

A few logistics about this contest:
- The concert is located in Chicago, but if you're willing to travel here, please enter!

- Be sure to visit the H&M tent on the festival grounds with a GIF booth, wifi, charging stations, air conditioning, a freshen up area with Kiehl’s products, Incoco nail polish strips, a hairstylist to braid and style hair to help beat the summer heat, DJs and giveaways.
- Contest will run until midnight Sunday morning; tickets will be shipped out to the winner on Monday morning.
- Hope to see you there!

Trapeze Dress (See Jane Wear)

Zara dress (sold out but similar here), See by Chloe sandals, Tory Burch sunglasses, vintage Gucci clutch
You know those days when it's so hot and humid even the lightest article of clothing seems like too much?  Enter: the trapeze dress.  It barely touches you and ever so slightly drapes off your frame--perfect for super, sticky temperatures.  Plus, it's easy to layer it; I added a denim vest to this dress today for the office.

Berry Yogurt Ice Pops (See Jane Freeze)

I hope you all had a great, summer weekend!  Here in Chicago, the weather is finally warm and it's actually starting to feel like summer...for real, this time.  Ice cream is definitely a staple of mine during the warmer months but on super hot and humid days, only an ice pop will suffice.  For someone who prefers creamier treats (hence my love of ice cream), these berry yogurt ice pops are the perfect alternative.  Plus, they're super easy to make; the hardest part for me was finding the ice pop molds (...and I found some at Target, of course).  I'll definitely be playing with other variations (chocolate banana, perhaps?) later on this summer.

For 4 ice pops (split ingredients in half/two separate bowls for different flavored pops):

- 10 oz plain greek yogurt
- 6 oz fresh berries (I used blackberries and raspberries)
- 3 T sugar (add less/more to taste)
- 1 T vanilla
- juice from 1/2 a lemon
- pinch of salt

Combine all ingredients (loosely smash berries with a fork) and spoon into ice pop molds.  Insert wooden sticks and freeze for 4 hours.  Enjoy!

White Short Suit (See Jane Wear)

Zara jacket (old, last seen here), J Crew sweatshirt, Anthropologie shorts (old but similar), Zara heels (similar), 3.1 Phillip Lim bag, Super sunglasses
I love a good short suit but to be honest, they make no sense to me.  You can't really wear them in a corporate-type setting but they often appear too dressy for a casual workplace.  What a conundrum; good thing I never invested in one.  By pulling out older pieces in a similar color palette from my closet, I was able to achieve a similar look.  Now if only I still had those palazzo pants from grade school hiding in my closet...
