Art of the Trench (See Jane in Burberry)

borrowed Burberry trench, ASOS drop waist dress, Express tights + wedges, Chloe bag
My friend Amy, of Chicago Street Style, had the amazing opportunity to work for Burberry's Art of the Trench campaign which involved shooting Chicagoans in the iconic trench around the city.  I am extremely honored to be part of this--check out the above photo that they used for the campaign.  I also attended the re-opening of the new Michigan Avenue Burberry store last night (which is insane--if you're in the city, be sure to check it out) which was a fun event with tons of movers and shakers from around the city (and from abroad--Christopher Bailey himself was there!).  Check out some pictures from my instagram below.

Wishing you all a great weekend.

Thankful (See Jane Grow Wiser)

Theory leather pants, J Crew blazer, F21 faux-fur stole (old but similar), Club Monaco blouse (old but similar), Prada booties, thrifted clutch, Gap sunglasses
It's been a hectic fall for me and it won't slow down until the new year.  This past Wednesday, I celebrated my 28th birthday followed by Thanksgiving with my loved ones and this upcoming weekend my best friend is getting married.  In a couple weeks, I'm off for a quick vacation with Eric and then it's Christmas with loved ones and finally, a brand new year.  As life continues to speed up, I sometimes can't fight the feelings of melancholy that overcome me knowing that time is slipping away.  However, I'm thankful for everything I'm able to do and for everyone in my life; it's easy to get nostalgic and yearn for the past but it's better to give thanks and live in the now.

Dark Hues (See Jane Wear)

Zara coat (old), J Crew sweater (last worn here), PJK leather skirt (last worn here), Old Navy chambray, Gap tights + sunglasses, Prada booties, Chloe bag, bracelets: J Crew + Giles & Bro
I'm a neutrals gal, through and through.  Sure, I love color--and bright ones at that, but at the end of the day, I love that I can continue to wear the same neutral tones season after season.  I've always been a proponent of black and blue; perhaps it's because I bruise easily (I really do--I'm on a daily aspirin regimen) or maybe it's because I think my winter, black tights go with everything...either way, I'm a fan of combining all dark hues.

Pumpkin Bars (See Jane Bake)

It may feel freezing but the harvest isn't quite over yet--pumpkin is still to be enjoyed!  My favorite foods at Thanksgiving are almost everything BUT the turkey, but it's mainly because I'm a 'sides' girl.  I'll take green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and stuffing (my mom makes an incredible sausage and onion version) over the big bird any day of the week.  When it comes to dessert, I'm usually too full on the said sides to enjoy, but I'll always enjoy something pumpkin.  These bars (I tweaked and added pumpkin pie spice) are a great way to enjoy everything pumpkin before the season is over.

First Frost (See Jane Wear)

Marc by Marc Jacobs coat (old), BB Dakota vest (similar), Joie sweater (c/o), Gap cords + boots, J Crew gloves
I shouldn't be surprised that it's finally snowed.  I suppose I thought it wouldn't happen the day after it was 70 degrees outside.  Ok, enough weather talk--instead, let's touch on the fact that I'll be 28 next week and that I just lingered at home longer than I was supposed to this morning so that I could watch One Direction on the Today Show.

Switzerland (See Jane Wear)

BB Dakota vest (old but similar), J Crew turtleneck, H&M jeans (old but similar), Zara boots (old), Chloe bag
This is about as neutral as it gets.  I wear outfits like this when I'm too tired to think (like I was this morning).  A faux-fur vest keeps me warm over a striped turtleneck and neutral accessories.  It's unassuming and inoffensive yet likable and still on point.  I'm neutral.  I'm Switzerland.

Double Dotted (See Jane Wear)

Club Monaco blouse (old but similar), Equipment sweater (c/o), J Crew skirt, J Crew coat, Gap tights, Prada booties
I needed a double dose of dots after such a long Monday.  The bright punch of pink didn't hurt, either.  Hope you're all having a great start to the week so far and no matter what your political views, I'm hoping those in the USA will exercise that (extremely important) right to vote!

Two Become One (See Jane Layer)

Zara jacket, BB Dakota vest (old but similar), Theory scarf (old), DL1961 jeans
Here's a quick Sunday night post as my body is confused (what day is it?) by this sudden darkness we aptly call "daylight savings."  It's November; winter is basically here, so it's time to bust out the fur.  You know how I love anything leather so thought I'd throw on my trusty vest over my leather-sleeved jacket (I did this repeatedly last year with the same vest).  Verdict: I stayed warm.

Fall Crostini (See Jane Make)

Meaning "little toasts" in Italian, crostini has become a staple in the world of appetizers.  The beauty of making crostini is that you can literally put anything you want on them; there are no wrong toppings and it's a great way to experiment with flavor combinations.

I think that pears get a bit overshadowed in the fall by their cousin, the apple.  They're juicy, mild and crisp, making them a perfect pairing with a strong cheese.  I toasted a baguette with olive oil and brie, then added a slice of pear, some fresh black pepper and a drizzle of honey.  What do you put on your crostini?
