Pretty Pastels (See Jane Lighten Up)

There's something in the air; could it be spring?  To stay on track from Monday's post, I decided to do a little roundup of on-trend pastel items.  It's hard for me to resist these sweet hues, especially when I know that warm weather is near.  In fact, what I have my eye on most is a pair of pastel sunglasses.  You might have seen my tweets about losing one of favorite pairs of sunglasses (first pair I've ever lost...I'm beside myself), so perhaps a light pink pair is in my future.

Minted (See Jane Wear)

BDG jeans, Old Navy chambray shirt, H&M sweater (old), Mulberry bag, Dolce Vita snakeskin flats, Karen Walker sunglasses

The perfect pair of mint-green jeans have been occupying my thoughts for awhile now.  I went back and forth in my mind justifying another pair of colored jeans, but once I found a less expensive version at Urban Outfitters, I jumped on the opportunity (see: completely justified).  Honestly, green hasn't always been a favorite color of mine, but I've always had a thing for a fresh, minty hue.  It started young when I deemed mint chocolate chip the end-all, be-all of ice creams flavors and I've been a fan ever since.

*note: my image host seems slightly distorts the color of these jeans (not sure why); they're actually a bit more subtle than the green shown here.

Black Bear (See Jane Wear...Then Forward On)

borrowed Daniella Kallmeyer hood/scarf, Gap sweater (old) + boots, Old Navy chambray shirt, Zara coated jeans (similar here) + coat
I present to you the fifth item for the Bib + Tuck Forward Fashion Project: a leather + fur hood by Daniella Kallmeyer.  I originally planned to wear the hood (as I don't do that...ever) but it turned out to be a chilly day so instead, I wrapped myself up in it's softness.  The hood is part fur and part leather; thus, I felt as if I needed to wear an equally bad to the bone outfit to complement this somewhat intimidating piece.  To maintain a tough look, I went with a lot of denim, leather details, and a chunky fisherman's scarf; that's right--you may not want to run into me in a dark alley.

Skip a Manicure (See Jane Preserve)

glitter tips
My expectation is that a manicure should last a week; of course, that's not always the case (and also, that's not to say I get one every week, because I definitely don't!).  Not only am I terrible at painting my own nails but I tend to wear through a manicure quicker than most.  When a glittery polish caught my eye, I decided I could cover up my ragged manicure with some quick swipes to the tips of my nails where chips were present.  As you can see from the pictures, the manicure was definitely grown out (see:  jagged cuticles) but this did the trick in a pinch and ultimately saved me both time and money.

'tart' by butter london
the only acceptable form of frosted tips (as far as i'm concerned)
Quick math:  If you currently get manicures every week and changed extended it to bi-weekly by adding some glitter to the chipped tips, you'd save about $390 per year* (assuming it's $15/manicure, including tip)

Violet Hour (See Jane Wear)

Zara coat + sweater, F21 shorts, Express tights + wedges, J Crew belt + scarf
Let's just address the fact that it's mid-February and I can wear this outfit without freezing my tail off.  I'll also touch on the fact the two main components of this outfit is from older items that I semi-forgot I owned (exhibits A and B).  I'm guilty of getting caught up in the new things I buy and totally neglecting old pieces; I need to regularly go through my closet to ensure I'm not buying multiples (i.e. wasting money) and that I'm actually wearing what I already own.  It can be hard--especially when spring collections are emerging and tempting me.  Do you make yourself wait to buy spring items until it's, you know, actually spring?

Bollare NYC (See Jane Visit)

fancy script
The lovely people at Bollare NYC (they represent clients such as Big Star Denim, JewelMint and Lucca Couture just to name a few...) invited me into their showroom to check out the space as well as some of their clients' offerings.  Upon entering, what struck me first was the gorgeous, natural lighting that drenched the open loft space.  In addition, neatly organized racks and attractive displays were lined along the walls.  I perused through the clothes and tried on some outfits (how the employees don't play dress up everyday is beyond me).  Check out a few snapshots from my visit:

bright pink isabel lu dress + coffee
i wish i was this organized
i'd like to stack those rings, please
quiksilver coat + david kahn coated pants
i'd wear that necklace daily
dress you up in my love
I can't thank Paulina and the Bollare NYC team enough for letting me swing by the loft and inviting me to the Ivana Helsinki show!  Be sure to check out their blog here.

Happy Valentine's (See Jane Love)

//a card for Eric//

I'm allowing a quick interruption of NWFW recaps to wish everyone a Happy Valentine's Day!  It hasn't always been my favorite or most celebrated holiday but I'm trying to fight my cynical urges.  Celebrate all the love in your life; tell your parents, siblings, aunts/uncles, grandparents, friends, significant others, heck, even your co-workers how much they mean to you today.  Whether you celebrate conventionally or not, just remember to spread the love.

Black + White (See Jane Wear)

H&M dress, Zara jacket (old), Gap scarf, Mulberry bag, Express tights, Prada booties (another version here), Karen Walker Sunglasses
My first NYFW has come and gone.  The past few days were exhilarating, jam-packed and admittedly, a little exhausting.  Nevertheless, I wouldn't trade the past few days for anything; I connected with people that I've been dying to meet, caught up with friends and bloggers alike, and saw some amazing fashions. Packing and planning outfits was daunting enough so I stayed true to myself and kept it simple with one of my favorite (i.e. tried and true) combinations: black and white.

Radio Silence + Teresa (See Jane's Friend)

J Crew pants, BR shirt, Zara blazer, Prune belt (in Argentina), W3 heels
I apologize for being MIA the last couple days; work has been crazy and I am currently in New York for a few NYFW events (and for fun, of course).  I love NYC, possibly more than any other city in the world, so it feels good to be here, even if just for a bit.  I'm excited to share bits of my trip once I return!

In the meantime, meet Teresa, my wonderful co-worker/friend.  She sometimes snaps my blog pictures so thought it was high time I feature her!  We actually went to the same college and once I started at Trunk Club, we became fast friends.  She is half-Brazilian and half-Argentinian and can speak four languages fluently (jealous).

Happy (early) weekend!

Cuffed (See Jane Wear...Then Forward On)

Zara coat, Equipment top, Old Navy pants, J Crew belt, Gap booties, Chloe bag, Ray Ban sunglasses, borrowed Citrine by by the Stones cuff
I'm really enjoying the jewelry in the Bib + Tuck Forward Fashion Project.  So far, I've received two pieces that I would never pick out myself but that I really have enjoyed wearing.  This double-cuff by Citrine by the Stones is a piece that Cleopatra would've been proud to wear.  It's a statement bracelet for sure, so I toned it down a bit by letting it peek out of my shirt and coat.  How about you--would you wear a double-cuff?

Opposites Attract (See Jane Wear)

Zara coat + sweater, thrifted shirt, J Brand jeans, H&M belt, unknown necklace, Reed Krakoff boots, Karen Walker sunglasses

The top half of this outfit is a casual-classic while the bottom is, well, something a bit edgier.  I saw these Reed Krakoff boots on sale at Saks after Christmas and was in awe by their unique and angular architecture.  They'll probably be just as fun with a more fashion-forward outfit (I envision wearing them bare-legged with a pastel, knee-length skirt in the spring) but for now, I'm putting my own personal spin on them and pairing them with some classics that I wear day to day.

Say Yes to the Vest (See Jane's Friend)

vest via 'the fur man,' Vince top, YSL bag
Sometimes I bring my camera to work so that my wonderful co-workers can snap a few pictures of my outfits.  My office is definitely a stylish one (remember Jan?).  Now, meet Sara.  We joked about the origin of her vest, which came from the "Fur Man" in NYC, according to her mother (who bought it for her).  Wherever it hails, I love it and thus, felt the urge to capture it on film.
