Robin Hood (See Jane Wear)

Vince sweater coat (via Gilt), H&M dress + belt, Madewell jeggings, Dolce Vita boots, Target hat, Chloé bag

I felt like a character straight out of Sherwood Forest while wearing this outfit on Saturday.  Over the knee boots with an oversized, belted sweater?  Just call me Robin Hood (the Kevin Costner version, although I did love the Disney version growing up).  The weather was surprisingly pleasant on Saturday, so I was able to wear this out and about without an additional overcoat--rare for January.  Also, I totally forgot I had these Dolce Vita boots and shamefully, it's the first time I've worn them about a year.  I just had to have last fall ('09!) and am a little embarrassed to admit that I haven't pulled them out of my closet this season until now.

Bring Me A-Line (See Jane Wear)

BCBG skirt, Zara turtleneck, H&M belt, necklace from small LA boutique (?), UO shoes

I don't often post work outfits on here.  Why?  Well, they're sort of boring, consist of a lot of black, and I do a lot of traveling so sometimes comfort takes precedent over anything else.  I have my good days, but truth be told, I don't always look as stylish as say, Anh, at work.

This particular skirt is probably a little too short for the workplace, but I'm a big believer that if you cover your legs with tights, you can get away with a lot more.  (I suppose that's just the rule breaker in me.)  Plus, wearing a turtleneck seems cancels out any sort of inappropriateness that a short skirt might convey.  Tip:  if you want to be taken seriously at a meeting, wear a turtleneck and glasses.

Have a great weekend!

Olé! (See Jane Cook)

If you haven't noticed, I have a tendency towards Mexican food and all things spicy (why do you think I'm having a wedding in Mexico?).  I could eat tacos every day, and thanks to my constant travel to San Francisco, I usually eat them at least once a week.   When I made it back to Chicago on Sunday evening, I had an itch to make cook, so I made my own variation of this taco recipe.

The recipe acted as a guide for me and I used similar spices along fresh lime juice to cover the chicken before baking.  I also used the recipe to help me create my own slaw for topping; I improvised up using sour cream instead of mayonnaise and added a whole jalapeno for kick.  (While delicious to me, it was also pretty spicy, so be warned!)  For extra oomph, I added some black beans and fresh avocado to the tacos.  That's what I love about cooking--it's not a science and you have free rein to be creative.

It's In The Bag (See Jane DIY)

I decided a few weeks back that I'd be making little favor bags to pass out at our wedding.  I won't reveal what will be in the bags yet (partly because I haven't made a final decision and also I want it to be a surprise), but I will be decorating them myself.  I've already bought the muslin, drawstring bags off Etsy and they're waiting patiently for me at home.  I may start them this weekend but I can't decide on a theme yet...

The wedding is just four months away...time for me to get crackin'.

Back to Reality (See Jane Wear)

Tibi dress (via Gilt), H&M belt, F21 shoes, Essie 'Really Red' nail polish
Another weekend has come and gone, in the blink of an eye; I swear, they get shorter and shorter as you get older.  As I mentioned on Friday, I spent the weekend with some girlfriends in Atlanta.  I had such a great time and experienced case of the Sunday Blues like no other when traveling home to Chicago.  Because of my propensity to get ready at the very last minute before a night out, I didn't snap photos of my friends (or myself) in their outfits, as planned.  When I came home early Sunday, I simply recreated the outfit I wore on Saturday night (i.e. one piece of clothing--a dress) and had Eric snap some pictures (please tell me some of you have done this before?).

Also, you might be wondering about the shoes I've been wearing nonstop.  Yes, I do have other shoes, and no, I don't wear them.

Weekend Wars (See Jane Travel)

Madewell jeggings + top, Bakers oxfords, Rebecca Minkoff bag, Ray Ban sunglasses

I'm heading to Atlanta this weekend to celebrate a friend's birthday.  I can't wait to experience a little southern hospitality with some of my girlfriends.  In the meantime, I leave you with some pictures from my past weekend in Los Angeles.  As you can see, I've been traveling non-stop (just add in my weekly work jaunts to San Francisco).  It's been super fun but I'll be excited to have a weekend in Chicago soon.

jump shot!

Enjoy your weekend.

Boutiques.com (See Jane Create)

I took Kiley's advice yesterday and checked out Boutiques.com.  I had been meaning to for awhile now, but reading her post gave me an extra push.  Welcome to my store front; I have a feeling this will be very bad for my already obsessive online-perusing habit.

Boutiques.com describes me as having a romantic style.  While I definitely gravitate towards a romantic aesthetic, I also think that I have a lot of classic tendencies to my style.  I love how online quizzes can open up your eyes and make you think "whoa, really?"  I can't wait to explore this site further and see what it directs me to purchase.  Check out the "See Jane." boutique here.  And for the record, I wish I was wearing Sienna Miller's outfit (middle picture) right now.

Weekend Bits (See Jane's Life)

view from loz feliz
I spent the weekend in LA visiting my brother and sister-in-law.  As I mentioned yesterday (as well as numerous other LA-based bloggers), it was downright scorching!  I didn't make it to the beach, but did in fact, spend ample time outside.  It was a nice change from the Chicago winters that I'm used to; from what I heard about Chicago weather this past weekend, if I would have been home, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have left the house.

All Black (See Jane Wear)

Anthropologie blazer, J Crew skirt (worn here), UO tee, Express tights, F21 booties
I spent the past weekend in LA where it was unseasonably warm.  When I packed, I knew it would be nice, but I wasn't expecting temperatures in the 80s.  My legs aren't quite ready yet to go bare, so I still wore sheer tights around (these are a light gray, but yes, they seem to look like my skin).  I wish I had been wearing a bit more color to go along with the tropic temps, but sometimes I just love all black (especially in January).

Run For Your Life (See Jane Cheer)

I'd like to wish my friends Maggie and Caitlin good luck this weekend as they run the Charleston Marathon!  I truly admire anyone who takes the time and dedication to train for such a feat.  I'm not much of a runner so anyone who can even run a handful of consecutive miles has my utmost respect.  I know they're going to do great and I can't wait to hear all about when I get back to Chicago!

P.S.  Be sure to wish Maggie (and her little sister, who is also running in it) good luck over on her and her sisters' blog!

Food For Thought (See Jane Make...sort of)

I love to cook.  However, due to my ever-changing schedule and constant travel, it makes it hard to visit the grocery store on a regular basis and have items on-hand that can create delicious meals.  While perusing Whole Foods last weekend I came across Rising Moon ravioli.  I decided to give it a whirl and the end result?  Way better than expected.  I kept it simple with olive oil, black pepper, kosher salt, and parmesan cheese; it was definitely the best ravioli I've ever had at home.  Alright, enough of that.  I promise never to post about frozen food again.

What's cooking (or defrosting) for you lately?

Maximize (See Jane Go Long)

Throughout the past few months, it's seemed like all fashionable ladies have been letting out their hems and donning longer skirt lengths.  Ever since junior high, when long skirts first started making an appearance, I participated in the trend, but always felt awkward in floor-skimming lengths.  I'm on the taller side, so I felt the silhouette wasn't doing any favors to my pre-teen figure (see: body of adolescent boy).  Well, the long skirts are back and I'm dying to try it again.  I ran into a bit of a caveat while shopping with my fiancé awhile back; I showed him the long skirt I was about to try on and he replied, "Are you Amish now?"  Note to self: when I do muster up the courage to wear a floor length skirt, don't test it out on him.

Until then, I will admire these lovely ladies who make a long skirt look especially good (and I know the fiancé would definitely approve--just look at them!):

Shoe Sale (See Jane Save)

I wouldn't be a good blogger if I didn't relay sales that crowd my inbox on a daily basis.  Until 1/12/11, all shoes are 20% off.  I definitely want to order a pair or two but need to narrow it down first.  Here are some of my picks:

Cooperative Sweater Boot - Time to stock up on boots before NEXT winter.
Deena & Ozzy Peeptoe Mule Wedge - I think I said I hate mules...I take that back.
Kimchi Blue Suede Block Pump - The perfect pop of color.
Jeffrey Campbell Suede Platform Wedge - I have a soft spot for ankle straps.

Any thoughts?

Hot Mustard (See Jane Wear)

There's nothing like blue skies and hot yellow to brighten your day.  Don't be deceived by the bright colors, though, it was freezing outside.  We're dead-smack in the middle of winter and I'm already tired of wearing long pants.  As an alternative, I wore shorts with tights and thigh high socks layered on top for extra warmth.  Who needs pants when you have layers?  As a side note:  I can't stop wearing these F21 booties (evidence: here + there); they're my first pair of footwear from there, and they've turned into my black shoe default.  I might need to change it up soon or my other shoes may get jealous.

Outtakes (See Jane Nix)

If I snap pictures of an outfit, there are always certain ones that don't make the cut.   While these aren't necessarily bad (the best of the outtakes, if you will), trust me when I tell you that there are some that are downright scary.  Well, you'll never get to see the scary pictures--sorry, but I want you all to continue to read my blog.

And lastly, a first for me:  here is an outfit that will never make the blog.  This is the first (and hopefully will be the only) time I've taken pictures of an outfit that I won't post.  It was New Years Day (who looks good the day after NYE?), the wind was howling, my nails were chipped and a hair cut/color was desperately needed (finally got my hair done on Tuesday).  We all have those days, right?  Here is a glimpse of the outfit you're not going to see in its entirety; the rest of the evidence has been deleted.

Have a great weekend!

J. Crew Spring '11 (See Jane Yearn)

Last fall (mere months ago), everyone was swooning over Spring 2011 collections, completely high off of Fashion Week.  Sure, it's fun to see what you might be wearing next spring, but ultimately, I have a hard time getting excited for clothing that's nearly half a year away from being wearable.  While some were concentrating on resort wear, it was just starting to get cold enough to wear sweaters and boots.

Fast forward to today, where winter is far from being over.  I always dread this time of year because I'm tempted by pretty, spring lines that are just beginning to pop into stores, and sadly, this is the best time of year to shop the winter sales.

*via fashionologie + j crew

I know the J Crew Spring '11 line has been showcased to death, but it's only starting to now resonate with me now that winter clothing is finally on sale and spring is in sight.  The pastels!  The shorts!  The bare legs!  And now, I can't wait until...May.

Tasty Tidbits (See Jane Eat)

life is just a bowl of cherries

Generally I like to post pictures of something I've recently made but for some reason I haven't been able to document the whole process with my camera.  Therefore, I will post snippets of different things I've eaten + made as of late.  Photographing food is actually quite tricky, but I'm up for learning the process.

sliced garlic for penne arrabiata
panko-breaded chicken
egg salad + arugula sandwich (you either love it or hate it--i love it)

What have you been snacking on lately?

Small Town Charm (See Jane Wear)

J Crew sweater + skirt (worn here), Gap button-up + tights, Bakers shoes, sister's scarf
Ignore that the first photo is out of focus and that the face I'm making is...embarrassing and just take in the image I'm trying to convey--a cold day in a charming, midwestern town (Perrysburg, OH).  So many things were happening on this Thursday before Christmas:

- a visit to the yarn shop (my mom is knitting me a throw)
- babysitting my nephew, William
- lunch with my parents and sister
- quick trip to the mall with my dad to buy presents for my grandpa
- and finally, an impromptu picture taking session (observe)

I love this skirt and these shoes.  At first I thought they wouldn't necessarily pair together, but ultimately threw caution to the wind and did it anyway.  Turns out, I like it.

And my wonderful sister + photographer, Emily..
