Want/Need (See Jane Yearn)

I took one look at Drew Barrymore's most recent movie premiere outfit this morning and stopped dead in my tracks.  How perfect is her McQ by Alexander McQueen army green mini dress with a Balmain black, studded belt?  Add nude, suede (YSL?) pumps and she has the perfect fall outfit.

I am on a mission to find my own version of this dress.  Have a great weekend, everyone.

Anticipation (See Jane Chomp at the Bit)

It's less than a week until I go on vacation, mes amis, and although I've planned nothing (save for a few restaurants) I simply can't wait to just get out of town.  It's been a year since I've taken a vacation and honestly, it can't come soon enough.

Please email me any of your favorite restaurants/sites/things to do in Rome, Paris, Cinque Terre, or Nice.  I'd love to hear some suggestions as I've never been to Cinque Terre and Nice.

Zoe Knows? (See Jane Question)

Some say Rachel Zoe is an expert of some kind--an artist, perhaps.  I say that she is just another reality televsion star just trying to extend her time in the limelight.  I'm no hater, though, I do watch and enjoy The Rachel Zoe project and I do think she has a great eye.  However, my big question is whether or not her eye for style coincides with the fantasy she tries to project?  For example, the show is fun because a lot of the brands and styles she wears simply aren't realistic for a normal gal such as myself (nope, I just haven't a need for the floor length vintage Oscar de la Renta down).

Enter Piperlime.com.  Rachel Zoe displays her picks, which are much more budget friendly than her normal, extravagant, designer buys.  Here are some of my favorite RZ approved items:

Marc by Marc Jacobs Saddlery Sophie
Rebecca Taylor Cami
Tucket Blouse
Frye Paige Boot
Elizabeth and James Sequined Sweatshirt

I'll admit that when I cruise Piperlime, I always look at her picks first.  Do you heed Rachel's Zoe style advice for your everyday wardrobe picks or do you simply watch her show for pure entertainment?

Summer Glow (See Jane Emit)

Confession:  I love spray tans.  It makes me feel instantly more confident and radiant; it's an instant pick me up,if you will.  I wear sunscreen every day and don't spend a lot out time outside these days (see: indoor job), but I really enjoy having a glow about me.  I'm all about embracing what works for you but I'll readily admit that when I'm pale, I have a sallow tone at best.  Don't worry, you'll see it in full force this winter.

J Crew tank, Zara skirt, H&M belt (worn here), J Crew shoes (worn here), Michele watch

As we near the end of summer, please divulge your guilty summer pleasures?

Style Maven (See Jane Find an Obscure Icon, part IV)

I'm guessing most of you were on the younger side when you watched Full House back in the early 90s.  I always thought I was closer to Stephanie's age, only to find out I was actually a year and a half older than Michelle in real life (didn't they seem like such babies for a long time?).  I really loved this show growing up.  I longed to have DJ's perfectly teased bangs or Stephanie's aptly-time one liners (e.g. 'how rude!').  However, my ripe, young mind didn't seem to grasp the fact that Aunt Becky had it going on.  Think about it:  she was a high-powered career woman that managed to balance a (totally hilarious) family all while being able to go home to Uncle Jesse (have mercy).

Not just your average working mom:

*clockwise from top left

  1. Aunt Becky does the classic, white button-up.
  2. 70s style shirt + black choker = 1992.
  3. She's got a family, flourishing career, and a hot husband...they can't all be wins.
  4. "YES, my shirt does look like a paisley bathing suit at J Crew, doesn't it?"
  5. Billow blouse with a pencil skirt.  Thanks for dictating my work style, Aunt Becks!

Maybe you didn't process Aunt Becky's style when you were a kid--I know I didn't.  But perhaps now that you're a littler older and wiser, you'll appreciate her style now while watching Full House reruns on TV Land.

Simplicity Speaks (See Jane Stripe)

I saw this silky, striped skirt at H&M last week and it was love at first sight.  Not only was it the right length, style, and price ($30), but I can see myself wearing it a variety of ways.  Shown below is the most obvious and classic way, but that was my mood.  No frills - just letting the skirt speak for itself.  I also envision wearing this skirt in the fall - perhaps with a belted chambray shirt and a pair of short brown boots (with socks).  Here, paired with two simple and layered tanks and a pair of suede pumps, I realized it was the easiest decision I'd made all week.

Will you do stripes in the fall?

Furrowed Brow (See Jane Squint)

I stare at a computer all day at work and I'm betting that many of you can relate.  Do you ever catch yourself, hunched over, shoulders rolled forward, squinting 5-inches from the computer screen?  It's a shameful position, really.  Whenever I catch myself like that, I immediately shoot up, sit up as straight as I can and give a quick look-around to ensure nobody saw me in such an unnatural position.  Give yourself a break, stretch, and look away from the computer, for at least one minute every hour.  Not only will it give your eyes a much needed break, but it will move those muscles and keep you from getting all Quasimodo (read:  The Hunchback of Notre Dame).

While the wrinkles caused by squinting aren't totally curable, I'm hoping I can prevent some in the future.  Is anyone using a fantastic eye cream that they'd like to share with me?

Ball and Chain (See Jane Haul)

The arrival of fall always makes me think of chains and metals.  I feel as if, just like clockwork, they show up on the fall runways.  The upcoming season is no different and I'm seeing the sweeping prevalence of chains and pearls.  I've read from multiple sources that 'pearls are back,' which makes me bashfully pose the question 'um, when did they leave?'  Perhaps they mean that pearls are back with a twist, or in this case, with a chain or two.

Will you embrace the pearl 'trend' or have you been wearing pearls for years?

Lucky (See Jane Engage)

It's with much delight that my 100th post is to let everyone know that I'm engaged.  The proposal was simple, sweet and I couldn't have asked for more.  Most people who know me would say I wasn't chomping at the bit to get married; I am fully committed to my boyfriend with or without a ring.  However,  when I look down at this ring, it only reiterates the fact that my boyfriend truly is my best friend I can't wait for the next chapter of our life.

Ok, fine.  Here is one with it on my hand (I really don't like my hands).  Yes, I'm in the shower.

It really is a fantastic ring.  I learned a few things this weekend: that my boyfriend has flawless taste and that I'm a lucky girl.

G.I. Jane (See Jane Salute)

True to form, I paired a simple, white dress, found deep in my closet, with an army green jacket that I forgot I even owned.  There's something alluring about the juxtaposition of a prim and proper white dress topped with a stiff, canvas military jacket.  So different, yet so complementary--sort of like macaroni & cheese with hot dogs (did I just lose you and/or make you ill?).  Add some suede, black sandals and you've got yourself a whole gamut of textures.

Theory dress, H&M jacket, Boutique 9 sandals, Ray Ban sunglasses, Michele watch

My post sounded so sophisticated before I brought up hot dogs.

Dog Days (See Jane Whimper)

I want a dog.  Please note that I don't discriminate and would also like a cat.  Buut, my boyfriend is pining for a dog and seeing as our apartment will only hold one animal, I think getting a dog will be first on the list of animals.  (Since it won't be happening anytime in the near future, I just thought I'd 'add it to the list' because this blog is essentially a diary + checklist for me.)

I had animals throughout my childhood and I know how much attention they require.  Thus, I know that I can't have one right now.  I travel too much for my job.  My boyfriend works way too much.

In the meantime, I shall 'ooh' and 'ahh' over dogs in my building and at in the neighborhood.  ...And also day dream of the turtleneck sweaters I'd like to dress my pup in at Christmas time.

So noble.  So stoic.

Do you have a pet?

City of Lights (See Jane Admire)

I'm going on vacation in 21 days (but who's counting) and while I'm totally unprepared, my excitement is overwhelming.  I know my days will be jam packed with sight-seeing, walking, and shopping, but I take comfort in the fact that I'll have some spare time to leisurely meander in Paris + Rome, as I've already visited.  I cannot wait to people-watch in Paris.  It's the city that begs you to sit back and watch the passersby--the styles, the clothes, the sidewalk cafes, and all that is chic.

Until then, I shall bask in their effortlessness.

Also, if you have restaurant/shopping/site recommendations for Paris or Rome, please email me as I'd love any suggestions!

New Toy (See Jane Play)

'Twas the shortest weekend of all eternity...short but sweet.  In anticipation of my upcoming vacation, I purchased a new camera on Saturday night.  I'd been planning on it for awhile since I had a gift card to burn, and I can already tell that this new toy is going to be a lot of fun.  C'est si bon.

An artist, I'm not.  How was your weekend?
